CARDIOLOGY

Cardiac department is equipped with colour Doppler machine with multiple probes. The Colour Doppler uses reflected sound waves to see how blood flows through a vessel and is useful to detect any blockages. TMT or Tread Mill Test is done to check how the heart reacts to stress induced due to exercise. If the heartbeat remains normal at peak exercise and at the predicted maximum heart rate for the age then the chance of having a significant block in a major coronary artery is less.

Apart from Colour Doppler the same machine is capable of performing Echocardiography and Dopamine induced Stress Echocardiography. It is one of the most widely used diagnostic tests in cardiology. It can provide a wealth of helpful information, including the size and shape of the heart (internal chamber size quantification), pumping capacity, and the location and extent of any tissue damage. An echocardiogram can also give physicians other estimates of heart function such as a calculation of the cardiac output, ejection fraction, and diastolic function (how well the heart relaxes)
