Obstetrics and gynecology is medical speciality that deals with obstetrics and gynaecology. The postgraduate training programme for both aspects is unified. Obstetrics is the medical profession that deals with pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period, chiefly at risk situations requiring surgical interventions. Gynaecology or gynecology is the medical practice dealing with the health of the female reproductive systems (vagina, uterus and ovaries) and the breasts. Literally, outside medicine, it means "the science of women".
